2020-21 HSQB Preseason Poll Results

The following article was a contribution by the entire Groger Ranks staff and many members of the HSQB community who helped out with this poll. Thank you.

Groger Ranks is excited to be back for the 2020-21 season! Over the last couple of weeks, we have been running our annual preseason poll for people to give their inputs for who they think will be the best teams this season. Of course, no one knows for sure yet which teams have studied, which new players will fill in the gaps of graduated players, or how the online format of this season will factor into performances. Nevertheless, it is a very interesting exercise to look back at the preseason polls at the end of the season and see how much we got right! With 11 ballots being taken into account, this poll reveals some trends for who are the favorites going into the season, yet there is still noticeable uncertainty as there were not many teams who were in every single ballot.

The rankings were conducted as follows: a team was awarded 30 points if they were ranked 1st, 29 points if they were ranked 2nd, etc. all the way down to 1 point if they were ranked 30th. The points for each team were then summed across all the ballots, with the highest and lowest ranking dropped. If a team was unranked in one or more ballots, one “unranked” ranking was dropped as the lowest ranking.
